Animal Planet ended The Crocodile Hunter with an episode titled “Steve’s Last Adventure” in 2007 after his death which had three hours of footage showing Irwin in different locations like the Himalayas, Borneo, Yangtze River, etc. It was screened in around 130 countries and reached 500 million people across the globe. ![]() In 1996, the first episode of the series was aired on televisions in Australia, and the other countries followed suit. The Irwins, on their honeymoon, trapped crocodiles and filmed a wildlife documentary on it that later became the famous series The Crocodile Hunter, reaching over 500 million people. Unlike most couples, they refused to wear wedding rings as it could prove hazardous for the animals they work with and for them. Terri said that Irwin sounded like an “environmental Tarzan, a larger-than-life superhero guy.” They got married the next year on the 4 th of June 1992. At a young age, Steve captured over a 100 crocodiles when he worked as a volunteer coordinator in Queensland. He would often be late to school as a child because he asked his mother to stop on the way so he could rescue different animals. His father educated him about crocodiles from an early age, and when he was only nine years old, under his father’s supervision, he courageously wrestled for the first time with a crocodile. He was involved in a number of activities at the park like feeding the animals, caring, and maintenance. ![]() He grew up with reptiles and crocodiles which explains his familiarity with them. Of Irish descent, Irwin moved to Queensland as a child in 1970 with his parents where they set up a reptile park named “Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park” which was renamed to “Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park” in 1982. Irwin’s father was a wildlife expert with a keen interest in herpetology, while his mother was a wildlife rehabilitator. ![]() On 22 nd February 1962, Steve Irwin was born in Essendon, Victoria, Australia to Lyn and Bob Irwin. Born on his mother’s birthday, Steve Irwin grew up around animals as his parents owned a reptile park.
